Old habits die hard - look to your school reports for some self-assessment

I had my six month probation review with my team leader today. It all went well, and I am now a fully pledged employee. However one little side comment about me from his report sparked my interest:
"Amy is a happy, confident team player who contributes actively in the team. However, she can be easily distracted and needs to pay more attention to detail."
Gosh, where have I heard that before?
Believe it or not, my school reports from years 7 - 11 have pretty much said the same thing. Amy was a smart and intelligent student and is always happy to be here, but need to concentrate more in class.
It looks like old habits die hard.
Then that gave me the idea - since our personality is likely to stay with us, why not use that to help us to understand ourselves to prepare for our careers?
Think about it. If you knew that you are likely to be distracted, then you can prepare yourself and try to concentrate during an interview or even just at work. If you knew that you are a little shy in group discussions and often get the comment that you don't contribute enough, then at work at least try to use other ways to contribute... etc.
Whether it comes to applying for the new job, preparing for an interview or looking for a change of career, knowing yourself can really help you make the right decision and prepare yourself for the best possible performance.
It's time to dig up those school reports!
