On the look out for a new job

I am once again on the look out for a new job. Sorry for the long silence.
In fact, I am not the only one. My cousin and my sister's partner are also on the look out for a new job. Come with the new financial year, we are all hoping things will start to look up.
We all come across times when we have had enough of the current job, whether it be because you hate your boss, or that you wanted a new direction or simply the job is just getting too repetitive you want something new, we find ourselves sneaking around looking up the job websites to see if there is anything suitable. Sometimes, the timing may not be right for the right job though, I know once I missed out on a job because they needed people within the week but I had to give the old job 2 weeks notice, so I wasn't able to take up on that offer.
But quitting before finding a replacement can be a major mistake too, as I once also have done (I tend to learn things the hard way) - quit before having something lining up ended up giving me 4 months of unemployment status. Thankfully mum and dad's spare room is always welcoming.
Dependent on the situation, I think the best thing is to do your research. If it looks like there is a bit on offer on the market, then it may not hurt that much by quitting early. But if it looks like it might be a while before anything suitable comes up it is probably best to stick to the old one until the opportunity to change comes along.
I find that even during times when you are not looking for a job, by leisurely browsing through job search sites can still be beneficial to you when it comes to renegotiating your salary and to keep up with the market. The job search websites often comes with news of the markets as well as hints and tips for interviews and resume writing, so you will be ready when the time comes!

Seek.com.au - the most popular job search engin, comes with N.Z and U.K jobs as well for those looking to expand overseas.
Career One.com.au - has great articles and news on the job market and job searching skills.
MyCareer.com.au - also a great site with good information.
Jobs.com.au
Other alternative sites:
Monster.com - based around the global this search engin, links back to Careerone for their Australian region, but may be your best friend when it comes to jobs in other countries.
MySpider.com.au
Reverse Jobs.com.au - don't look for jobs, let the jobs find you! Apparently...
Graduate Careers - great information base to look for the best graduate program for your completed degree
Vocation H - Job website specifically for the hospitality industry
Day work.com.au - a website specifically dedicated for part time and school hour work for those requiring the flexibility
