FINALLY!
The quest continues
So i have been doing work with an Aids organisation in Sydney to launch a new magazine called Sticks and Stones magazine. This all started from my work with another popular free gay magazine where i wrote and edited storied for a fold out section which was based on the gay youth of Sydney.
The reason why this particular aids organisationl was involved was because we had our meetings at the head office. Anyway that magazine ended up folding because of a lack of funding, but The Aids organisation ended up asking all of us back to start a new magazine for them!
So it started off with five of us. I think it was five. The organisation pretty much just gave us the money and said make a magazine! This included advertising, writing, editing, photoshoots, organising models, attending meetings, creating mud maps (the format) etc etc. We ended up with two originals and then we got a graphic designer on board thank god!
I'm pretty proud of myself. I was the only one of the original volunteers to stick it out, the other guy was the facilitator of the organisation so he was getting paid to do it! When the others said they were too busy or couldn't commit - i kept on going!
And you know what? It comes out tomorrow! I had a meeting with the editor last week and it was so great to see a copy of it. I felt like all the crap that went on behind the scenes was worth it. I felt like it was my own little baby!
You can pick up Sticks and Stones magazine in any Sydney Star Observer on the streets of Sydney this week. You can check out my articles on friendship and honesty in relationships and living the life of a skinny person. If anyone actuallt does pick it up, let me know what you think.
