Deciding to stay
August 26th 2009 11:03
In the past 2 weeks I have been looking for and applying for my next career move, from jobs back in IT as well as those in a different direction to the travel industry, I've applied for them all.
Had a couple of replies, but unfortunately no success. There was always something lacking. Simply put - I wasn't good enough for any of them.
So, although I still am aiming to get out of my current role, I have decided to stay for now.
I've weighed the pros and cons.
Staying means that I am further away from getting a decent position back in the IT industry, if I do want to get back on track to that part of my career, I'll need to move fast.
HOWEVER staying also means that I get to take all the holidays I had planned to take in the next 3 months and not have to worry about a new job not giving me the option to take annual leave just yet as a new employee.
I had a good long chat with my boss's boss, whom was a little disappointed at my mentioning that I would like to quit. We spoke about my issues with this job, and also about any alternative opportunities within the same company. However, I have now been convinced to stay for at least another 2 months - they (the bosses) are determined to make me see this job can get somewhere and can mean something. And if by the end of October, I still feel like the way I do now, at least we've both tried.
