Defining your personality to suit your style

Personality is a big thing, and understanding you own as well as others can affect the way you work and communicate. It is especially important in team work and customer service when you need to deal with various types of people to achieve a goal, to make a sale and to create something new.
Personality plays a large role in these team environments.
At one of my training sessions for work we sat down and did a set of questions to define our personalities in relation to four types of birds: The Eagle, The Peacock, The Dove and The Owl. These four birds represent the types of people and the way they think and work, as well as their communication methods with others around them.

Of course, we are not all 100% one type or the other, but understanding where you stand as well as recognising the way other people work can really help you find the correct medium when it comes to team work. In a sales environment too. Understanding how your customers like to think and work can help you determine how to talk to them and what information to give them. For example, an Owl customer may want the exact dimension and weight of an item for purchase where as the Dove and Peacock personalities may simply want to know if it's "as big as the window and it's not too heavy".
When it comes to job search, you can make your own personality stand out at the interview or work it to your advantage in team work. Understanding the personality of team members can help a manager allocate different tasks and responsibilities among different employees.
